BALD PEAK – Loon Echo Land Trust needs volunteers to help with a National Trails Day effort to improve Bald Peak Trail on its Pleasant Mountain Preserve. Volunteers can be part of the 20th Annual National Trails Day on June 2 and help Loon Echo prepare the Bald Peak Trail for the busy summer hiking season.

“National Trails day is a great time to get outside and celebrate our natural surroundings” said Loon Echo’s Stewardship and Volunteer Coordinator Jon Evans, “Trail maintenance is a great way to do just that and give back to our outdoor refuges.”

The work will involve cleaning drainage ditches, clipping brush and trail hardening. Some tools will be supplied, but you should come prepared with work boots, gloves, water and energy-rich snacks. Interested volunteers should meet Loon Echo staff at the Bald Peak trailhead on Mountain Road off of Route 302 in Bridgton at 7:45 a.m.

Loon Echo Land Trust protects land in the northern Sebago Lake region of Maine. Its mission is to conserve the region’s natural resources and character for current and future generations. Currently, Loon Echo protects more than 4,000 acres of land, and Pleasant Mountain Preserve is one of six preserves that are open to the public. Other Loon Echo preserves include Bald Pate Mountain in Bridgton; Mayberry Hill Preserve in Casco; Pondicherry Park in Bridgton; Sylvan Woods in Harrison; and Sebago Headwaters Preserve in Bridgton. Loon Echo currently maintains more than 20 miles of multi-use trails at these preserves.
