BIDDEFORD – In what has become a pregame Lobster Bowl tradition, four skydivers from Skydive New England in Lebanon again performed flawlessly.

One by one, four skydivers swooped in and executed perfect landings to the delight of the Waterhouse Field crowd.

The game had to be delayed a few minutes for them to arrive.

FANS WERE treated to a wide-open game. Both teams, running a version of the spread offense, took to the air. West quarterbacks Cam Olson of Cheverus and Paul McDonough of Wells enjoyed a lot of success throwing.

Both quarterbacks led their teams to state titles in 2011. McDonough tossed touchdown passes to Matt Burnell of Bonny Eagle and Troy Pappas of Marshwood in the first half.

Olson scored the first touchdown for the West on an 8-yard run.

EARLY ON, the East took advantage of its speed to grab a quick 16-6 lead. The West made some adjustments in the middle of its secondary and forced some turnovers to get back into the game.

AT HALFTIME, the John R. Schmidlin Trophy was presented to Luke Libby of Thornton Academy in Class A, Jack Cooleen of Falmouth and Jake Ouellette of Leavitt in Class B, and Tyler Reed of Winthrop in Class C. Each player received a trophy.

The criteria for the trophy are good citizenship, team play, loyalty and reliability.

THE NATIONAL anthem was sung by Crystal Ryder. She also sang “God Bless America” at halftime.
