BURLINGTON, Vt. — The Vermont Department of Health says 10 Vermonters have become sick from ground beef being recalled by Cargill Beef.
Hannaford Supermarkets is alerting consumers that Cargill Beef is voluntarily recalling 29,339 pounds of ground beef that may contain salmonella.
The 85-percent-lean ground beef was produced at Cargill’s plant in Wyalusing, Pa., on May 25, and repackaged for sale to consumers by customers of the Maine-based grocery chain.
The Health Department said Monday that between June 6 and June 26 a total of 10 Vermonters around the state became sick. Officials say three were hospitalized and all have recovered.
Although most of the recalled ground beef was supplied to Hannaford , a “handful” of other distributors also received it, according to a Cargill spokesman.
But neither Cargill nor the U.S. Department of Agriculture has named those other distributors.
