DAMARISCOTTA — The Dam Blues Festival, in it’s fifth year, starts the weekend off on Friday, Aug. 3, with what organizers “like to call a ‘Blues Warmer Day’ with some of the artists playing their wares in the streets, on the corners and at several of the local lunch spots,” according to a news release.

The main event kicks off on Saturday, Aug. 4, at Round Top Farm’s Darrows Barn at noon and continues until around 6 p.m.

A release from organizers describes the festival as follows:

Darrows Barn is a community facility is owned and managed by the Damariscotta River Association. It is a remodeled dairy barn surrounded by fields leading down to the Damariscotta River. This part of the festival features five blues acts, including Jimmy Junkins and the Soulcats, the Lydia Warren Band, Black Cat Road Duo, Sugar Ray and the Bluetones, featuring Monster Mike Welch, and the festival headliner, Southern Hospitality.

Southern Hospitality (Victor Wainwright, Damon Fowler and JP Soars) is a high octane power blues band. Both Wainwright and Soars were nominated for blues music awards at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis earlier this year.

In addition to music, there will be food, drink and beer vendors, as well as CDs, Tshirts and other souvenirs for sale.

Saturday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. there will be a sunset show featuring Pam Baker and the SG’s at the Mediterranean Kitchen. Baker is billed as “Maine’s own Queen of the Blues.”
