Registration for the fall high school elite and 7/8 elite leagues are open at 207 Lacrosse in Portland. The leagues run on Sundays from Sept. 2 through Oct. 21 with the seventh- and eighth-graders playing at 5 p.m. and the high school league at 6 or 7 p.m. The cost is $160 per player. The Komen Maine Race for the Cure in Portland will take place Sept. 9 and the event is in need of volunteers to make it happen. There is a wide variety of volunteer jobs available, including traffic control, water stops, event setup, data entry, etc. There are also volunteer opportunities in the weeks leading to the race at pre-registration and T-shirt pickup. A Tropical Golf Scramble to benefit the Make A Wish Foundation will be held Oct. 6 at the Boothbay Country Club. The cost is $80 per golfer with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Sign up as an individual or as a team. The price includes 18 holes of golf, cart, casual buffet and evening of entertainment. A golf-only option is available for $65. The dinner and entertainment-only option is $25.
