First Parish Congregational welcomes new pastor

The First Parish Congregational Church of Pownal has a new pastor. The Rev. John Wentworth, a Bucksport native, and his wife, Janet, originally from Sanford, have come to the Pownal church from New Hampshire, where he was a pastor in Wentworth. Wentworth led a church in Waterville for 10 years earlier in his ministry.

The First Parish Congregational Church on Route 9 will have its regular worship service on Sunday, Sept. 22, at 9:30 a.m. For more on church programs, call Craig or Cheryl Vosmus at 688-4810 or Arnold and Doris Blackstone at 688-4791.

Town office to close for election training

Pownal’s town office, located in Mallett Hall, will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 26 and Thursday, Sept. 27, for staff election training. The office is normally closed on Fridays, so it will reopen on Monday, Oct. 1.

Regular town office hours are Mondays from 8:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. and Tuesdays through Thursdays from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. For more information, call 688-4611.

Pownal selectmen, Planning Board to meet

The Pownal Board of Selectmen will be meeting Monday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m. at Mallet Hall. The Pownal Planning Board will hold its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m., and then the board will hold a workshop as part of its ongoing review of the updated zoning ordinance draft on Sept. 25 from 8-9 a.m. at Mallet Hall.

The Planning Board will also be holding an onsite inspection of a proposed single-lot division by the Grindle Family Partnership at their property on Tuttle Road on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 8 a.m.. The site walk is open to the public.

Food pantry open on Tuesdays

The North Pownal United Methodist Church on Lawrence Road is open every Tuesday from 10:30 a.m.- noon. Volunteers never know from week to week what will be available, but the pantry usually gets different kinds of breads, produce, desserts, etc. All are welcome.
