TORONTO – Eduardo Nunez hit a go-ahead sacrifice fly in the eighth inning, and the New York Yankees overcame a four-run deficit to beat the Toronto Blue Jays 9-6 and remain tied with Baltimore atop the AL East.

Eric Chavez homered for the Yankees, who completed a 4-3 trip and headed home for a season-closing series against the Red Sox. Meanwhile, the Orioles beat the Red Sox 6-3 and have a final series at Tampa Bay.

TIGERS 2, TWINS 1: Prince Fielder hit a two-run homer, his 30th, in the eighth inning to lift visiting Detroit. A Chicago loss to Tampa Bay gave the Tigers a three-game lead over the White Sox in the AL Central.

Miguel Cabrera — trying to become the first player since 1967 to win the triple crown — went 0 for 3, dropping his batting average to .325. Twins star Joe Mauer went 3 for 4 to raise his average to .323.

ANGELS, RANGERS SPLIT: Mike Napoli homered twice and drove in six runs for the Rangers in an 8-7 victory, after an earlier 5-4 loss at Arlington, Texas.

The Rangers can clinch the AL West by winning once in a three-game series at Oakland that starts Monday. Los Angeles trails the A’s by three games for the AL’s second wild card with three games left.

RAYS 6, WHITE SOX 2: David Price became Tampa Bay’s first 20-game winner, B.J. Upton homered twice and the Rays stayed afloat in the AL wild-card race with a win at Chicago.

Chicago is three games behind AL Central-leading Detroit with three games left.

ATHLETICS 5, MARINERS 2: Yoenis Cespedes hit a go-ahead homer in the eighth inning to move Oakland a win closer to the club’s first playoff berth in six years, as the A’s won at home to stay on the heels of Texas in the AL West race.

INDIANS 15, ROYALS 3: Asdrubal Cabrera capped a 10-run fifth inning with a grand slam at Cleveland.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

CARDINALS 10, NATIONALS 4: Carlos Beltran homered twice and St. Louis closed in on the NL’s second wild-card berth with a win at home.

St. Louis’ magic number for clinching stayed at two, as the Dodgers also won.

DODGERS 7, ROCKIES 1: Josh Beckett earned his first victory in five starts as Los Angeles, playing at home, won its fifth straight to stay in contention for an NL wild-card spot.

BRAVES 6, METS 2: Atlanta won for a major league record 23rd straight time in games started by Kris Medlen (10-1).

The Braves have already clinched an NL wild-card spot.

GIANTS 7, PADRES 5: Pinch hitter Xavier Nady homered to tie the game and Hunter Pence hit a go-ahead, two-run shot as the NL West champs won at San Diego.

ASTROS 7, BREWERS 0: Jordan Lyles pitched his first major league shutout and hit his first home run as visiting Houston eliminated the Brewers from wild-card playoff contention.

REDS 4, PIRATES 3: Pittsburgh ensured it would finish with a record 20th straight losing season, blowing a ninth-inning lead at home. The Pirates were 16 games over .500 on Aug. 6, but lost 18 of 23 to fall to 77-82.

PHILLIES 4, MARLINS 1: Cole Hamels (17-6) struck out eight and allowed one run in seven innings at Miami to finish his season with a flourish.

CUBS 7, DIAMONDBACKS 2: Chicago ended a seven-game losing streak, winning at Phoenix.
