LEWISTON (AP) — TD Bank has told the Maine Attorney General’s Office that the personal information of nearly 35,000 Maine residents, including Social Security and bank account numbers, may have been compromised by the loss of bank data in March.

The number was disclosed in a letter from the bank to the state dated Oct. 5 and obtained by the Sun Journal on Thursday.

The bank’s chief privacy officer acknowledged that two computer data backup tapes went missing while they were being shipped to a TD Bank location. The letter said the tapes may have included not only names, addresses, Social Security numbers and bank account numbers, but also dates of birth and driver’s license numbers.

TD Bank officials say there is no indication the data has been misused.
