TOPSHAM — Topsham is among five municipalities seeking “business-friendly” recognition from the state Department of Economic and Community Development.

The LePage administration announced Thursday that Ellsworth, Fairfield, Lubec, Kennebunk and Topsham are under consideration in round three of the Certified Business Friendly Community Program.

The LePage administration has so far certified 14 cities and towns as “pro-business.”

A team made up of public and private economic development experts reviews each application to determine eligibility. Criteria include customer service, business involvement and collaboration, input from the public and licensing and permitting.

A decision is expected in early November.
