PEMBROKE, Maine  — The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has scheduled three public meetings this week to collect input on a proposed $70 million tidal energy project on the Pennamaquan River south of the Washington County community of Pembroke.

Halcyon Marine Hydroelectric, a Utah company, is proposing to build a facility that would generate power during both the flood and ebb tides.

The Bangor Daily News reports that FERC staffers will meet with the public, project advocates and state environmental and energy regulators on Thursday and Friday.

FERC staffers and state agencies also will be meeting Wednesday with Passamaquoddy tribal officials. The meeting was described by tribal Gov. Clayton Cleaves as a workshop to discuss tribal environmental concerns about the tidal project and other fisheries management issues.
