LEWISTON — Joseph Stoklas, age 95, of Osgood Avenue in Mexico, died Tuesday October 23, 2012 at CMMC in Lewiston, following a brief illness.

He was born in Jay, Maine a son of Joseph and Helen (Horvath) Stoklas.

Joseph was educated in Jay schools.

He was employed for 38 years with the Rumford Paper Mill as an electrician. Prior to this he was employed as an electrician at Bath Iron Works for 5 years.

Joseph was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Snowshoe Club, and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

He loved fishing, growing vegetables, was an avid bowler, and loved to play cards.

Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Elizabeth (MacDonald) Stoklas of Mexico; three children, Maryann E. Stoklas of Bath, Thomas M. Stoklas of Brunswick, and Paul J. Stoklas and partner Dean Nadeau of Portland; a sister, Elizabeth Coulombe of Jay; a brother, Louis Stoklas of Jay; three grandchildren, Lisa Abbott of CA, Lauri Gowell of OOB, and Shannon Grich of Roxbury; three great grandchildren, Megan Abbott of CA, Patrick Abbott of CA, and Ryanne Abbott of Virginia; one great-great grandson, Paul Dylan Sbrana of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, three sons, John, Joseph, and James Stoklas, and two sisters, Mary Viger and Margaret Piela.

The family would like to thank CMMC nurses and staff on the M1 wing for the special kindness and care given to Joseph.

Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 7 pm Friday October 26 at SG Thibault Funeral Home, with visitation by the Daughters of Isabella at 5:45 pm and the Knights of Columbus at 6 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Saturday October 27 at Parish of the Holy Savior. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery.
