Good news travels fast.

I was standing in a crowded department store in Louisiana when my cell phone rang.

It was my friend Bud Aumick, who was minding the fort while I was away. He sounded very excited when he called. His first words were, “Have you heard from Mort, our treasurer?”

I said no, why? He said Harry S. Crooker and Sons Inc. sent us a donation of $1,250 and their employees sent an additional $500.

No wonder he felt compelled to call me. Bud knows we have worked a little harder this year than other years. Sending me some good news would definitely let me unwind a little bit more.

We want to thank the Harry S. Crooker and Sons Corporation for their continuous support of the Santa Claus Fund. The family has kept the tradition going that the late Harry S. Crooker started several Christmases ago. And with the generous and thoughtful gift from the employees, it was like icing on the cake. Your donation was a wonderful bonus, and it definitely helped “put a smile on a child Christmas morning.”

— We have many others to thank today as well. Some are new and some are loyal supporters of the Santa Claus Fund. Here are the names:

W. Evans gave $20; Gayle Brown donated $50 in memory of Dick Brown, who passed away unexpectedly in 1999; and Forest Lowe sent $50.

Great job, friends and neighbors. We make a great team. If you haven’t made a donation but would like to help, you can send your taxdeductible donation to The Santa Claus Fund Inc. at P.O. Box 278, Brunswick 04011.
