RICHMOND

Police arrested a Richmond man this week on charges of operating under the influence and criminal mischief after he allegedly ran over another residents’ ornamental spruce tree.

At 2:19 p.m. Monday, police arrested 42-year-old Dana R. Shulman of 48 Main St., Apt. 7. Shulman was arrested in his driveway after a Durrah Street resident reported  he had run over a decorative 14-foot spruce tree in his front yard, Richmond Police Chief Scott MacMaster said.

“From what we can tell, it was an ongoing dispute” between Shulman and the complainant, leading Shulman to hit the tree on purpose, prompting the criminal mischief charge.

The impact from Shulman’s sedan pushed the tree over and snapped it, MacMaster said.

The incident occurred after Shulman was visiting a neighbor of the owner of the tree.

A male passenger, also from Richmond, was not charged. The car sustained some damage to the undercarriage, police said.
