Gary Allen of Great Cranberry Island ran through Falmouth on Thursday as part of his 700-mile run from Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park to Washington, D.C., to raise money for the Wounded Warrior project, the American Cancer Society and Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
Allen, 56, hopes to arrive in the nation’s capital in time for the presidential inauguration on Jan. 21.
His journey began Monday, when he ran down Cadillac Mountain on snowshoes after a friend took him to the top by snowmobile. He has been running about 10 hours a day and has enjoyed support along the way.
“I feel like I am riding the crest of a wave that is gathering momentum like crazy,” Allen said.
