NEWCASTLE — Heartwood Regional Theater Company is offering free tickets for first-time audience members to see “Ghost-Writer,” a one-act play directed by Griff Braley. Tickets must be reserved in advance; the offer is not valid at the door.

Performances will run for two weekends only in the Poe Theater at Lincoln Academy. Evening performances beginning at 7:30 p.m. will show Jan. 18, 19, 25 and 26 with two Sunday 3 p.m. matinees, Jan. 20 and 27.

The play features a trio of highly capable actors, whose synergy is even greater than the sum of their parts, a news release said. Two well loved Mid-coast actresses, Millie Santiago of West Boothbay and Dixie Weisman of Newcastle, are joined by newcomer to Heartwood, Dwight Burtis of Thomaston. As one can see and hear by watching the “Ghost-Writer” video trailer at www.heartwoodtheater.org, this small, dedicated cast has thoroughly enjoyed the rigorous, in depth analysis of text and character, during the weeks of rehearsal.

A news release describes the play as follows:

Franklin Woolsey (Burtis) dies mid-sentence, but his secretary Myra (Santiago) “continues to take dictation.” Attacked by skeptics, the press and Woolsey’s jealous widow (Weisman), Myra sets out to prove she is more than just an artful forger. Perhaps she is attempting to steal Woolsey’s legacy now that she cannot have his love, or perhaps she truly possesses a gift the world cannot understand.

For a complete evening of winter delights, join one of several Heartwood Dinner Partner Restaurants supporting live theater performance and education at Heartwood this season: Damariscotta River Grill, King Eider’s Pub, Newcastle Publick House, Salt Bay Café, Best Thai Restaurant and Savory Maine.

Seating at the theater is general, though special arrangements may be made at the time of reservation. Shuttle parking is available in the upper parking lot, with doorstep service — request at time of reservation.

Tickets are $12 for students and $20 for adults.

Reservations are strongly suggested at 563-1373 or [email protected]
