Public Water Workshop

A proposal to build an Upper Village public water system in New Gloucester was voted down by a slim margin recently at a special town meeting. Since a clear consensus was not reached, a Public Water Workshop is being held to allow citizens an opportunity to voice their opinions.

The charette-style program will begin at 9 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 26, at Memorial School, 86 Intervale Road, New Gloucester. A complimentary light lunch is scheduled for 11:45 a.m.

JG & the Boofs ?in Concert

New Gloucester resident Jim Gallant will be performing with three of his longtime buddies known as the Boofs (an acronym for ‘Bunch of Old Friends’) at the Village Coffee House, Saturday, Feb. 2, starting at 7:30 p.m. The band performs a great mix of up-tempo music, including bluegrass and blues.

The concert venue will be the Vestry Community Room of the First Congregational Church, 19 Gloucester Hill Road, New Gloucester. Admission at the door is $10 for adults; $5 for seniors and children under 12. Coffee and tea are free, while snacks are available for a small donation. Kick Up Your Heels

The band, Stolen Mojo, will be getting the crowd up on its feet at the Royal River Riders Snowmobile Club’s second annual dance. It takes place from 8 p.m.-midnight, Saturday, Feb. 2, at Amvets Post 6, 1095 Lewiston Road, New Gloucester. BYOB. Sabbathday Lake Ice Fishing Derby

Royal River Rod and Gun Club, in cooperation with Kittery Trading Post, Cabela’s, Dag’s Bait Shop, Fraternal Order of Eagles Club and other sponsors, is pleased to host the fourth annual 2013 Sabbathday Lake Ice Fishing Derby, Saturday, Feb. 9, on Sabbathday Lake. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Youth Field Day Program.

Registration starts at 7 a.m. on the ice opposite the old Sabbathday Lake Grange, and final weigh-in will be at 3:55 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for the three largest fish caught and weighed in, both child and adult categories.

Take Your Child ?to the Library Day

Come hang out with your child(ren) at the New Gloucester Public Library, 379 Intervale Road, 9 a.m.-noon, Saturday, Feb. 2. There will be games to play, as well as a quiet corner for a reading space. Light refreshments will be served.

Cardio Kickboxing

Are you looking for a high-intensity workout to increase your strength and flexibility while burning fat? Then, cardio kickboxing may be for you. A non-contact kickboxing workout blends elements of boxing, martial arts and traditional aerobics.

These 60-minute classes, taught by Heather Denton, will be held on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. and Saturdays at 7 a.m., now through early March, at the New Gloucester Community Building located behind Town Hall.

Healthy Kids at the Pineland Y Week

Healthy Kids at the Y Week consists of free programs open to the community held during the week of Jan. 28-Feb. 2 at the Pineland branch, 25 Campus Drive, New Gloucester. They are designed to get kids up, moving and having fun.

The Cabin Fever Book Sale is coming up Saturday, Feb. 9, from 8 a.m. to noon at the New Gloucester Public Library, 379 Intervale Road. In addition, tasty baked goods will be for sale.
