BRANFORD, CT — Arthur Donnelly Maloney, 88, of Branford, CT, beloved husband of Shirley Englehart Maloney, passed away in his sleep, with family by his side, on February 3, 2013, at Hospice, Branford, CT. He was born in New Haven, the first son of Arthur Donnelly Maloney, Sr., and Barbara Schwanfelder Maloney.

A retired Lieutenant on the New Haven Fire Department, Arthur served in World War II, first as a Low Ball Gunner on B – 17 planes and then as a Radio Signal Operator in San Pancrazio, Italy. A man of the land and the sea, he was happiest in a boat, swimming, gardening or doing carpentry. He and Shirley built their house with their own hands, then built a summer house in Rhode Island. Avid travelers, they visited all fifty states and several continents.

His children, Stephen of Branford, CT, and Judy of Brunswick, Maine, cherish the memories of nightly baseball games, swimming, camping, fishing and boating with their Dad.

Art is fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Kelly Parker-Guilbert of State College, Pennsylvania, and Hannah Parker-Maloney of New

York City. Playing pool, or games with Grampy were a childhood treat.

He was predeceased by his brother, John Maloney, and sister, Barbara Maloney Henderson. Heartfelt thanks are extended to the aides, art therapists, doctors, music therapists, nurses and social workers who provided comfort and support at the Star Wing of Hospice. Also, to the caring staff of home care Hospice and the Visiting Nurse Association, who allowed Art to stay in his home as long as possible.
