CUMBERLAND CENTER — Dan Holt, 78, of Cumberland Center, died Feb. 3 at his home after a long battle with cancer.

Holt graduated from Morse High School in Bath and enlisted in the Army, serving proudly during the Korean War.

He married Jacquiline Purdy, of Bath, and worked for a brief time at Bath Iron Works before moving on to Electrolux, where he worked for more than 50 years.

Holt enjoyed boating, lobstering, fishing and clam digging. He had a green thumb and could grow almost anything including blueberries, figs, raspberries and tomatoes. He always grew enough to share with neighbors and family. He was a fierce competitor whether it was cribbage, croquet or any other game.

Holt loved the sun and drove convertibles for years. He traveled to many places but most of the time it was to someplace warm and sunny. He loved to cook and could often be found preparing meals for a friendly and welcome crowd.

Holt is survived by his three children, Brenda Holt and her husband, Michael Stinson, of Bath; Kevin Holt and Kathy Dial of West Bath, and Michael Holt of Milton, Mass.

Holt’s extended family includes Morris E. Carter, and two children, and Lisa A. Carter Cummings, and five children, all of Florida. Holt enjoyed many special enduring moments with his former high school sweetheart, Jean McRae, of Bath.

A funeral service was held Feb. 7 at the Lindquist Funeral Home in North Yarmouth, with burial to be held in the spring.
