NASHUA, N.H. — For now, the air traffic control tower will still be staffed at the municipal airport in Nashua, N.H.

The airport is losing federal funding for control tower operations as a result of the automatic spending cuts, known as sequestration.

The Nashua Airport Authority says it has signed a month-to-month agreement with Midwest Air Traffic Control Services, the company that runs the tower now, to help pay for controllers and other expenses.

The authority estimates it costs about $34,000 a month to run the tower.

The airport was among 149 ordered by the Federal Aviation Administration to phase out control tower operations in a federal cost-cutting effort.

Nashua Municipal Airport is used by corporations, the military, recreational pilots and others.
