FREEPORT – Jack Davenport, a freshman, allowed a first-inning home run to Tim Brigham before settling down as Freeport topped Cape Elizabeth 6-1 Monday in a Western Maine Conference baseball game.

Davenport limited the Capers (1-1) to four hits, striking out eight.

Freeport (1-1) took the lead with a five-run second inning.

Brady Davis started the rally with a two-out double to right-center. Niko DiFazio doubled home Davis to tie the game, and then scored on Cole Harrison’s single. Nick Cartmell doubled home the next two runs before scoring on Brandon Williams’ single.


GREELY 10, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 0: Pitcher Bailey Train had three hits and three RBI as Greely opened its season with a victory over Fryeburg Academy (2-1) at Cumberland.

Train had a two-run homer in the first inning and an RBI double in the fifth. Jonah Nomandeau’s hit in the fifth brought home the Rangers’ 10th run, ending the game by the mercy rule.

Train pitched five shutout innings, striking out six, walking none and giving up one hit.


OLD ORCHARD BEACH 12, WAYNFLETE 3: Starter Anthony Langella struck out nine and reliever Quincy Grace struck out the side in the seventh to lead the Seagulls (1-1) in a win over Waynflete (0-1) at Old Orchard Beach.

Devin Trumpler had two hits and three runs scored for the Seagulls. Sean McDermott went 2 for 4 and scored twice.


TRAIP ACADEMY 11, SACOPEE VALLEY 4: Dan Eddy doubled home two runs and scored a third as the Rangers (2-0) tallied three times in the third inning to take a 5-3 lead over Sacopee (1-2) in Kittery.

Eddy added a solo home run in the fifth before Traip put the game away with a five-run sixth keyed by Evan Perriera’s two-run double.

Nick Foye pitched a complete-game three-hitter for his second win of the season.


SCARBOROUGH 5, MASSABESIC 0: Jasyme Lappin pitched a one-hitter as the Red Storm (2-0) shut out visiting Massabesic. Lappin struck out seven and hit two.

Casey Nava ruined Lappin’s no-hitter with a bloop single over first with two outs in the seventh.

Ben Greenberg drove in the winning run with a two-run double in the first.


YORK 3, POLAND 2: Alex Mercurio scored on Adam Legg’s fourth-inning sacrifice fly to break a 1-1 tie.

Sam Johnson scored a batter later when the ball was thrown away during an attempted double play, giving the Wildcats (1-0) the decisive run over visiting Poland (1-2).

Caleb Brigham had two hits for the Knights.


GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 11, LAKE REGION 4: Kyle Nielson had two RBI and recorded the win for the Patriots (1-2) over the Lakers (0-1) at Gray-New Gloucester.

Justin McKenna had a pair of doubles and two runs scored for the Patriots.


LINCOLN ACADEMY 14, MT. VIEW 6: Allen Oliver had a pair of doubles with two RBI and four runs to lead the Eagles (2-1) past the Mustangs (0-3) at Thorndike.

Casey Poland drove in two runs and Sawyer Pinkham scored a pair for Lincoln Academy.

Ashton Reynolds was 3 for 3 with two runs and an RBI for Mt. View.


MORSE 8, MEDOMAK VALLEY 0: Aaron Barrett pitched a one-hit shutout for Morse (2-1) in a win over Medomak Valley (0-2) at Bath.

Barrett fanned 11 and walked four.

The Shipbuilders scored five runs in the first.


WAYNFLETE 16, YORK 0: Henry Cleaves had six goals with an assist as the Flyers (1-0) blanked the Wildcats (0-1) at Portland.

Zander Majercik scored four with two assists and Timmy Bollinger put in three goals.


LAKE REGION 6, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 1: Drew Shane and Dakota Russo had two goals each to lift the Lakers (1-1) over the Raiders (0-2) at Fryeburg.


SCARBOROUGH 9, SOUTH PORTLAND 8: Matt Murphy scored the winner with 32.7 seconds remaining as the Red Storm (4-0) held off a surge by the Red Riots (3-1) at Scarborough.
