BRUNSWICK — Albert Wesley Farris Sr., 86, died Friday, May 10, 2013.

He was born Aug. 2, 1926, in Portland, Maine, a son of Joseph Daniel and Grace Farris Daniel.

He attended Portland schools and entered into service with the U.S. Navy in March 1944. During World War II he served aboard the USS Astoria. He married Emma Raymond Dec. 23, 1950, in Portland.

He later enjoyed a career as a long haul trucker for many years. His best memories were those times on the road, traveling throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. When he was at home, he loved woodworking, coin collecting and gathering with family and friends.

He was a proud member of the American Legion, Post 164, and formerly served as county commander. He was also a member of Grande Du Maine, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and an honorary member of the Brunswick Elks Club.

He was predeceased by a son, Robert Alan Farris; four brothers, Philip Daniels, Melville Farris, Martin Farris and Robert Wallingford; and two sisters, Evelyn Mallar and Florence Mackie.

He is survived by his wife, Emma of Brunswick; two sons, Albert Farris Jr. and his wife, Melissa of Brunswick, and Clifford Farris and his wife, Joanne of Hudson, Fla.; two daughters, Grace Daniels and Susan Soutomah of Brunswick; 11 grandchildren, Miranda Farris, Emma Farris, Clifford Farris Jr., Lisa Leiste, Jennifer Bergmann, Ed Comeau, Chris Comeau, Samantha Trevorrow, Michele Reed, Stephanie Staples and Ashley William; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 17, at American Legion Post 164, 65 Depot Road, Falmouth. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org); or the Coastal Humane Society, 30 Range Road, Brunswick, ME 04011.
