BRUNSWICK — In recent Brunswick Cal Ripken action, Goodwin’s topped Durham, 5- 3, and hung on to edge Five County Credit Union, 5-4.
In the Durham game, the offense was provided by Benjamin Israel with a double and Caleb Thompson with a single. Nathaniel Swan chipped in with two stolen bases after being walked in the sixth. Sam Masse struck out 11 and made two big defensive plays in the field. His battery mate, Brian Cobb, had a standout game behind the dish. Devon Cameron picked up two strikeouts in the closer role.
Durham hits were provided by Nathan Abbot with a triple, while Landon Adkins and Noah Larrabee chipped in with a single apiece.
Despite the relatively low score, the FCCU game was a slugfest, with both teams combining for a dozen hits. Goodwin’s was led by Scout Masse with a double and a single, and Israel with two singles. Cameron added a double, while Cobb and Ethan Rollins each had a single.
For FCCU, Henry Burnham doubled, while Thomas Seitz, Evan Kilfoil, Trevon McKenzie and Spencer Marquis all had a single.
Masse started for Goodwin’s, striking out the side in both the first and second innings. Israel, over four innings of relief, had seven strikeouts and turned in some nifty defensive work around the mound.
FCCU’s Burnham was touched up for five runs, but also had five strikeouts. McKenzie, kept it close by pitching two scoreless innings in relief.
