BATH — Katherine L. Small, age 63, of Bath, died May 18, 2013 at Hawthorne House, Freeport, after a long and courageous fight against synovial cell sarcoma. She was born in Augusta on July 5, 1949, the daughter of Richard V. Small and Rosalie (Best) Small.

Miss Small was a graduate of Cony High School 1967 and last employed as an LPN at the Maine State Prison, Warren, before her illness. She was previously employed by John Hancock, Boston, MA, The Boston Phoenix, Boston, and TJX/Marshall’s, Woburn, MA.

After earning her Practical Nursing Diploma at Youville Hospital School of Practical Nursing in July 1989, she worked as a staff nurse at Youville Hospital, Cambridge, MA for two years before moving back to Maine to be closer to her family. Miss Small worked as an LPN in several nursing and rehab facilities in the Freeport-Bath area.

She was predeceased by her brother Richard E. Small and her nephew Shawn M. Small.

Surviving are her brothers William F. Small and his wife Joyce of Augusta, James B. Small of Augusta, Edward C. Small and his wife Peggy of Washington, CT, her aunt Jacqueline Cressey and her husband Robert of Brunswick and three nieces, two nephews, several greatnieces and great-nephews, cousins and dear friends.

There will be no visiting hours or service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Katherine to the Dana-Faber Cancer Institute, ATTN: Synovial Cell Sarcoma Research, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445.
