AUGUSTA — Oakland Town Manager Peter Nielsen recently was sworn in as president of Maine Municipal Association’s Executive Committee, while Marston Lovell, a city councilor in Saco, was appointed vice president.
Nielsen, who began his career as a town manager in 1990, assumed the presidency in March during a swearing-in ceremony at the MMA Conference Center in Augusta.
“It’s a mixed blessing that Maine towns and cities perform our work so efficiently that sometimes we get taken for granted,” Nielsen said. “It’s not by chance that a 911 call brings help, that the kids get educations, that roads are clear and fit for driving, that trash gets recycled, that libraries and recreation programs run smoothly and that cemeteries look nice for Memorial Day. We serve as beacons of efficiency that other levels of government can try to equal.”
Lovell is the owner and operator of Manufacturers Analytics, a Saco-based company that he has led since 1987. He has served on the Saco City Council since 2007, is a member of the Southern Maine Planning Commission and served on the board of trustees of the Dyer Library Association from 2001 to 2006.
