FRYEBURG – Mykaela Twitchell drilled an 0-2 pitch up the middle with the bases loaded in the top of the first inning to drive home two runs, and fourth-seeded Greely upset top-seeded Fryeburg Academy 2-1 in a Western Class B softball semifinal Saturday.

Haley Felkel and Elyse Dinan singled for the Rangers (14-4) before Danielle Cimino was hit by a pitch, setting the stage for Twitchell.

Fryeburg (16-2), the five-time defending regional champion, loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the first inning but managed just one run on a bunt by Sydney Charles. The Raiders stranded a runner at third in the fifth and left two on in the seventh, as Cimino recorded a strikeout to end the game.

Cimino struck out nine, walked two and allowed five hits.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

CAPE ELIZABETH 17, GREELY 10: Lauren Steidl paced the second-seeded Capers (10-4) with six goals and an assist in a Western Class B quarterfinal win over the third-seeded Rangers (9-4) at Cape Elizabeth.

Cape Elizabeth led 11-4 at halftime. Talley Perkins finished with three goals and two assists, and Maisie Perkins scored twice and set up three goals.

The Rangers got three goals apiece from Teal Otley and Cameron Keefe.

WAYNFLETE 18, YORK 8: Sadie Cole scored seven goals to power the top-seeded Flyers (13-0) past the fourth-seeded Wildcats (10-4) in a Western Class B semifinal at Portland.

Martha Veroneau added five goals and Isabel Agnew chipped in three for Waynflete. Leigh Fernandez had six assists.

Courtney Cole scored four goals for York.

MASSABESIC 7, MARSHWOOD 5: Heather Everett poured in six goals for the second-seeded Mustangs (11-3) as they held off the third-seeded Hawks (10-4) in a Western Class A semifinal at Waterboro.

Lindsey Poirier had a pair of goals for Marshwood.

BASEBALL

MARSHWOOD 4, WINDHAM 3: Noah McDaniel’s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh gave the second-seeded Hawks (16-2) a win over the third-seeded Eagles (14-4) in a Western Class A semifinal at South Berwick.

Jake Lebel put Marshwood up 2-0 in the first inning with a two-run single that scored Nate Brenner and Max McCoomb.

Windham got a run back in the top of the fifth inning when Joe Francoeur singled home Nate Boyle. McDaniel answered with an RBI single in the bottom half.

Windham tied the game in the sixth when consecutive dropped fly balls with two outs allowed two runs to score.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

BRUNSWICK 13, MESSALONSKEE 9: Cameron Glover scored three goals and set up three others to pace top-seeded Brunswick (13-1) to a win over fifth-seeded Messalonskee (9-5) in an Eastern Class A semifinal at Brunswick.

KENNEBUNK 11, SOUTH PORTLAND 9: Josh Hussey scored four goals as the third-seeded Rams (11-3) rallied past the second-seeded Red Riots (11-3) in a Western Class A semifinal at South Portland.

Duncan Preston paced South Portland with three goals.

CAPE ELIZABETH 17, WAYNFLETE 4: Alex Bornick scored five goals for top-seeded Cape Elizabeth (11-2) against fourth-seeded Waynflete (7-7) in a Western Class B semifinal at Cape Elizabeth.

Cape trailed 2-1 before scoring 12 straight goals for a 13-2 halftime lead.
