BRUNSWICK — A graduate of Thornton Academy and a student at Southern Maine Community College in South Portland has been selected to become the new Miss Maine for 2013.

Kristin Korda, 21, of Saco, won the title of Miss Maine on Saturday night during a competition that was held at Brunswick High School’s Crooker Theater.

Marisa Butler of Standish was first runner-up.

Korda sang during the talent portion of the competition. Her platform is Big Brothers, Big Sisters: Start Something Big.

Korda will spend the next year traveling around the state. In September, she will travel to Atlantic City, N.J. where she will represent Maine in the 2014 Miss America competition.

Also on Saturday, Daphne Ellis won the title Saturday of Miss Maine’s Outstanding Teen for 2013. She will travel to Orlando, Fla., in August to represent Maine at the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Pageant.
