JUNIOR LEGION: Ben Conti scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error at home in the top of the eighth inning as South Portland (14-8) held on for a 2-0 win over the Lyman Eagles (15-6) in a state tournament quarterfinal at Lyman.

Thomas Richards threw six scoreless innings for South Portland before Brad Sowerby secured the shutout in relief.

Eighth-seeded South Portland will advance after besting second-ranked Lyman 2-1 in the best-of-three series.
