On Saturday, Aug. 10, at 7 p.m., Amy Allen will perform at the North Windham Union Church as part of the Music with a Mission concert series.

Allen is a singer/songwriter who grew up in Windham and now lives in South Portland. She started playing guitar and writing songs when she was 9 years old and plays a great mix of country-influenced pop. She has played on WCSH’s program, 207, at the Old Port Festival, the L.L. Bean concert series, and has opened for Ben Taylor, Jonathan Edwards, and many others. She also appeared on Season 2 of NBC’s The Voice, is currently attending Berklee College of Music in Boston, and recently completed her third CD release.

This concert is the seventh in the “Music with a Mission” series sponsored by the North Windham Union Church. The church donates a portion of the proceeds to area nonprofits. Allen has chosen to support the Windham Primary School Playground Fund with the community proceeds from this concert since her mother, Melissa, taught there for many years. So far, the Music with a Mission concerts have provided almost $6,000 in support of NWUC and direct gifts to local nonprofits.

“Amy has become a real favorite with audiences throughout southern Maine, and we are very excited to welcome her back to Windham to perform this summer,” said Dr. Richard Nickerson, minister of music for NWUC. “’Her career has taken off in recent years, so it will be fun to showcase her talent for local fans and summer visitors too.”

Allen’s music has been compared to Adele, Nora Jones, and Taylor Swift, and her most recent EP, “Other Side of Somewhere,” was just released last month to great reviews.

Tickets will be sold at the door and are $12 for adults and $10 for students, children, and seniors. The box office opens at 6:15 p.m. and the doors will open at 6:30 p.m. The North Windham Union Church is located at 723 Roosevelt Trail in Windham and is air-conditioned.
