BOWIE, Md. – Seven proved to be the Portland Sea Dogs’ lucky number in the 11th inning Friday night.

Travis Shaw led off the 11th with a home run, and Michael Almanzar capped a seven-run outburst with a two-run shot as the Sea Dogs earned a 9-2 victory over the Bowie Baysox at Prince George’s Stadium.

Shannon Wilkerson added a two-run double and Tony Thomas had a two-run single as part of the big inning that ended Portland’s three-game losing streak.

The Sea Dogs scored twice in the third and held the lead until Bowie tied the game with two runs in the seventh.

Portland missed on several scoring chances, going 0 for 8 with runners in scoring position and leaving nine on base through the first 10 innings.

The Sea Dogs finally regained the lead in the 11th when Shaw homered off Chris Petrini (3-5).

Christian Vazquez followed with a single and Ryan Dent walked. Heiker Meneses dropped a sacrifice bunt before Petrini intentionally walked Matty Johnson.

That brought up Wilkerson, who capped a 4-for-5 night with a two-run double off the fence in left. Two batters later, Thomas lined a single to right for a 7-2 lead. Almanzar followed with his homer to right.

Rafael Perez (2-1) got the win with a solid 21/3 innings of relief. He gave up just one hit and struck out three.

The Sea Dogs nearly wasted a strong effort from starter Terry Doyle. He kept Bowie quiet through most of his 62/3 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits. He didn’t run into any problems until the sixth and seventh.

Portland staked Doyle to a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Johnson and Wilkerson hit one-out singles, and a wild pitch by Bowie starter Devin Jones moved them to second and third. Jones struck out Garin Cecchini before Thomas ripped a shot down the line that Bowie third baseman Brandon Waring couldn’t handle, allowing both Johnson and Wilkerson to score.

Bowie tied the game in the seventh. Seth Loman’s sacrifice fly made it 2-1, and Niuman Romero drew a bases-loaded walk off reliever Pete Ruiz.

The Sea Dogs threatened in the eighth, putting two on with two outs before Almanzar struck out. They had two on with one out in the 10th, but Thomas and Almanzar both struck out.

FLYING SQUIRRELS 6, SEA DOGS 5: Javier Herrera’s one-out single in the 10th inning drove in Ryan Lollis with the winning run as Richmond handed visiting Portland its third straight loss, in a game delayed more than two hours because of rain.

Matt Spring hit his 10th homer of the season and Michael Almanzar drove in three runs for the Sea Dogs.

Portland trailed 4-1 before scoring four runs in the seventh. Spring led off with a homer to left, followed by back-to-back singles by J.C. Linares and Ryan Dent. A throwing error on Shannon Wilkerson’s sacrifice allowed Linares to score, and Almanzar’s two-run single made it 5-4.

Richmond tied it in the eighth on a two-out RBI single by Mark Minicozzi.
