FREEPORT— Ursula Cleopatra Roberta Yearwood “Suzie Q” Cobbs, 86, resident of East Street in Freeport, formerly of Cedar Street in Brunswick, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at Freeport Nursing Home in Freeport. She was born Oct. 21, 1927, in El Callao, Venezuela, a daughter of Danley and Josephine (Joseph) Yearwood.

She left Venezuela at the age of 5 with her family and moved to Curacao, Suriname and later moved to Haiti where she had lived for two years. She graduated from Guantanomo High School in Cuba and later attended and graduated from tailor/seamstress school.

She married and had her children in Cuba. In 1958, Mrs. Cobbs moved to Washington, D.C., where she lived for three years, before moving to San Diego, CA, and ultimately settled permanently in Brunswick.

In 1965, Mrs. Cobbs went to work at Regional Memorial Hospital as a nurse’s assistant and at Parkview Memorial Hospital as a parttime nurse’s assistant. She was employed from 1968 to 1971 at Giant’s Department Store.

Prior to opening her tailor shop, Suzie Q Tailor Shop in Brunswick, she worked in the Brunswick Naval Air Station tailor shop for nine years.

She was predeceased by a son, Enrique Ricardo Cobbs, who died in 1958; a granddaughter, Tyme Neshea Myers, who died in 1998; a brother, Alfredo Yearwood, and a sister Juanita Del- Carmen.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Pleasant Street in Brunswick, with Reverend Carolyn Eklund officiating.
