The American Legion Oratorical Contest is an opportunity for local high school students to receive scholarship money and demonstrate the ability to think on their feet. Contestants must speak on some aspect of the U.S. Constitution for 8-10 minutes followed by a 5-minute response question selected the evening of the event.

Post winner will receive $200 for first place and $100 for second place. Additional scholarship money winners at the district, state and national level range into the thousands of dollars. The Field-Allen Post 148 contest will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 8, at 7:30 p.m. at the Windham Veterans Center.

The 2nd District competition will be held on Jan. 22.
