Tree lighting ceremony Sunday

Westbrook’s annual tree light ceremony will be held this Sunday, Dec. 1 starting at 4:45 p.m. The ceremony, which is held at Riverbank Park, includes a performance by the Westbrook Brass Band, a visit from Santa Claus, caroling, hot chocolate and more. The event is sponsored by the Westbrook/Gorham Community Chamber. No registration needed.

The event timeline is as follows:

4:45 p.m. – Westbrook Brass Band

5 p.m. – Santa Claus

5:30 p.m. – Tree lighting

St. Mary’s school

Donna Cousens Conley of the Library and Museum Committee at the Westbrook Historical Society is compiling a listing of St. Mary’s grammar school graduates. Conley said the school was open from 1929 to 1969. but the historical society has very little information about its graduates.

“We would appreciate any information, photos, yearbooks or artifacts that you may have on the school,” Conley said.

Pantry holiday schedule

The Westbrook Food Pantry will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 24. On Tuesday, Dec. 31, the food pantry will be open only from noon until 2 p.m. Clients need to take verifications of addresses in January in order to renew their membership.

Westbrook dancers in ‘Nutcracker’

Four dancers from Westbrook will appear in Maine State Ballet’s holiday classic “Nutcracker” that opens this week at Merrill Auditorium in Portland.

The Westbrook dancers are Ruby Anderson, Madeline Barron-Morse, Marie-Claire Owens and Emma Tompkins.

The show opens on Saturday, Nov. 30, and runs through Sunday, Dec. 8.

Maine State Ballet said in a statement that the production would feature live music from the Maine State Ballet Orchestra, costumes and stage scenery by Gail Csoboth, and dancing by more than 300.

Performances will be held Saturday, Nov. 30, at 2 and 7 p.m.; Sunday, Dec. 1, at 2 p.m.; Friday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 7, at 2 and 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m.

Seniors to meet

Westbrook Senior Citizens will meet at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 2, at the Westbrook Community Center, 426 Bridge St. Musician Marc Mailhot will entertain.

The seniors are planning to travel on April 15 to Mohegan Sun in Connecticut to see Debbie Reynolds. The seniors are also planning a trip to London from June 9-16. For more information about the seniors group or trips, call 854-2705 or 883-5046.

Woman’s club to meet

Westbrook Woman’s Club will meet at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church, 810 Main St., Westbrook.

Guest speakers will include Dr. C. Rivas and Dan Crothers. Members are reminded to bring the articles for the Christmas bags to be filled. Light refreshments will be served.
