The extreme cold gripping Maine isn’t going anywhere in a hurry.

The National Weather Service says a cold front will cross the area early Tuesday and through New Year’s Day on Wednesday will bolster the arctic air that chills the region.

Snow is expected Thursday and Thursday night. For Thursday through Saturday, high temperatures are expected to reach only into the teens. Saturday is expected to be bitterly cold, according to the weather service forecast.
