The Kittery Water District was working to complete sewer repairs near Walker Street by Monday night to avoid snarling the Tuesday morning commute.

A rupture in a sewer line was reported at 3 p.m. Sunday and officials worried that work on the line would affect Monday morning’s heavy commute of workers into the shipyard.

However, because of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday, there was minimal staffing at the shipyard and no complaints by motorists, despite Walker Street being narrowed to one lane, a Kittery Police Department dispatcher said.

The district hopes to have repairs to the ruptured line complete by Monday night.
