AUGUSTA (AP) — Maine officials are announcing a new program that seeks to help banks and credit union staff members prevent financial exploitation of the elderly.
On Monday, groups including the Maine Council for Elder Abuse Prevention, Maine Department of Health and Human Services and the Maine Bankers Association will lay out the Senior$afe program.
The groups say the program seeks to close gaps in the financial abuse reporting system and have agencies work together better to ensure those who are exploited get the help they need.
Officials in Maine have started working on issues regarding the elderly population as the state’s population continues to age. By 2030, more than 25 percent of Maine’s population is expected to be 65 years or older.
