AUGUSTA (AP) — The state-run Riverview Psychiatric Center in Augusta has received accreditation from a national nonprofit, but must still pass a federal inspection to regain $20 million in funding lost last year.
Mary Mayhew, commissioner of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, says the accreditation Monday by The Joint Commission shows the state is “making a significant investment in quality on a day-to-day basis.”
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services cut nearly $20 million in funding in October after an audit determined the facility was not compliant with federal rules.
The Kennebec Journal reports that The Joint Commission gave Riverview mostly average marks compared to hospitals nationwide. It got negative marks for letting patients go while on certain medications and for the amount of time seclusion was used.
