Join the Sebago Chapter of Trout Unlimited at Yarmouth’s First Parish Church to tie flies with moderator Rod McGarry and tier Mike Stewart from North Granby, Conn. Hike around

10 a.m., Boothbay Harbor


The Boothbay Region Land Trust will lead a hike around the Schoolhouse Preserve. The free hike is about two miles and is part of the monthly series of guided hikes that take place on the second Tuesday of the month. For more information, go to www.bbrlt.org or call 633-4818.


Invasives workshop

9 a.m. in Jefferson

Hidden Valley Nature Center hosts a workshop to train volunteers to identify invasive forest insects and unwanted pests. The Maine Forest Pest Outreach and Survey Project involves a half-day of training. Students will learn about potential forest pests; the insects’ life cycle; how to identify pests and host trees; and how to report suspected pests. Rain date is March 14. Weekend fishing expo

Fishing celebrities, demonstrations, seminars, clinics and hands-on activities will be on tap at L.L. Bean’s 24th annual fishing celebration. Trophy trout specialist Kelly Galloup and tarpon expert Andy Mill will be available at the store on Saturday and Sunday. Both also will lead seminars. Celebrity fly tiers include David Klausmeyer, Peter Smith and Ellen Belyea. These renowned tiers will be tying a variety of flies, including classic streamers, tube flies and patterns for saltwater. Hear nationally recognized fly tier and fly fishing expert Don Bastian share what he has learned over the years about pond and still water fishing for trout at the Sebago Chapter of Trout Unlimited’s chapter meeting at American Legion Post 62 in Westbrook, off Main Street by Riverside Park. Fly Fishing Expo

March 22 in Bethel

The Western Maine Fly Fishing Expo will welcome anglers on Saturday, March 22, at the Bethel Inn and Conference Center. The Expo runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is sponsored by The Mollyockett Chapter of Trout Unlimited. Exhibitors include Maine and New Hampshire outfitters and guide services, sporting camps, wildlife artists and authors, and state biologists. There will be seminars on getting started in fly fishing and ideas for trips to fly fishing destinations. Proceeds of this year’s auction will go toward the construction of the Veterans Casting Platform at Songo Locks on Sebago Lake in honor of Maine’s wounded servicemen and women.
