BIDDEFORD — Blanche R. Vereneau, 84, of Biddeford died on March 19, 2014 at Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford.

She was born in Biddeford on July 25, 1929, a daughter of Joseph and Florida (Cantara) Chretien.

She attended St. Joseph School in Biddeford.

On Aug. 29, 1953, she married Norbert L. Vereneau at St. Joseph Church in Biddeford.

As a young woman, she worked for Kesslen Shoe. She then moved to New Britain, Conn., where she worked at Brittany Farm Retirement Home as a housekeeper. In 1994, she returned to Biddeford.

She enjoyed gardening and especially liked spending time with her family. Blanche liked going to Fortunes Rocks Beach with her family.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by: four brothers; and four sisters.

Blanche is survived by: her husband of 61 years, Norbert L. Vereneau of Biddeford; two sons, Raymond Vereneau and his wife Darlene of New Britain, Conn. and Steven Vereneau of Bristol, Conn.; three daughters, Linda Vereneau of New Britain, Conn., Rita Swanson of Biddeford and Janice Labbe and her husband Gary of Bristol, Conn.; one brother, Leopold Chretien of Biddeford; one sister, Pauline Avoy of Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Morin and his staff, and to Carol from VNA services, for all of the great care that was given to Blanche.

Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Hope Memorial Chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 24, 2014 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Church in Biddeford. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Biddeford.
