Now in its sixth year, the Dumont Cup hosted by Sunday River has become a big draw for slopestyle skiers and fans. The event kicked off today with 97 amateurs hoping to qualifiy for Saturday’s semifinals. Forty will move on.

The competition is the creation of Simon Dumont, who was raised in Bethel and attended Telstar Regional High.Â

Coming Saturday: Joss Christensen, Gus Kenworthy and Nick Goepper, the Americans who swept the slopestyle event at the Sochi Olympics.
