Guitar duo at Saco River Theatre

Grammy nominees Julian Lage and Chris Eldridge will appear at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, at the Saco River Theatre, 29 Salmon Falls Road, in Buxton.

Lage and Eldridge will explore the worlds of improvisation and composition. With Lage’s background in modern jazz and new music, and Eldridge’s deep relationship with bluegrass as well as his being a member of the widely acclaimed band Punch Brothers, the duo specializes in improvisation and spontaneous composition, played on 1939 Martin guitars.

Buxton papers available

Nomination papers are available for a number of elected town positions, including two members of the Board of Selectmen for three-year terms, said Buxton Town Clerk John Myers

Selectmen terms expiring this year are those of Robert Libby and Jean Harmon.

Other openings include one director for School Administrative District 6 for three years; two Planning Board members, three years; one Planning Board member, two years; two Budget Committee members, three years; and town clerk, three years.

All nomination papers must be filed in Myers’ office in Buxton Town Hall, 185 Portland Road, by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 28. The secret ballot election will be held on Tuesday, June 10.

The annual town meeting is scheduled for Saturday, June 14.

Meeting set on Hanson Gym, Hollis High School

The Community Heritage Alliance of Rural Maine will hold a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, April 14, at the Buxton-Hollis Historical Society, 100 Main St., Buxton.

The group’s program includes electing officers, amending bylaws, discussing the alliance’s efforts to re-purpose Hanson Gym into a community center for School Administrative District 6 residents, and efforts to save and re-purpose the former Hollis High School. Recycling supports BEHS scholarship

The Buxton Garden Club is collecting used inkjet cartridges and cell phones to fund a scholarship for a Bonny Eagle High School senior.

Collection boxes are located at Buxton Recycling Center, Buxton Town Hall, West Buxton Library, Salmon Falls Library, Hollis Town Hall and Hollis Center Library.
