GORHAM — Rosie Forster and Nicole Laplante scored three goals each to lead fourth-seeded University of Southern Maine to a 13-5 quarterfinal win over fifth-seeded Eastern Connecticut State in the Little East women’s lacrosse tournament Tuesday.
Jacki Kelly and Lauren Lessard added two goals apiece for the Huskies (8-8), who raced to a 9-1 halftime lead over the Warriors (3-13).
Southern Maine will play at top-seeded Keene State in the semifinals at 2 p.m. Friday.
BASEBALL
USM 5, BOWDOIN 2: Logan Carmen allowed one run in seven innings, and the Huskies (27-8) scored three runs in the fifth inning in beating the Polar Bears (17-14-1) at Brunswick.
Troy Thibodeau was 2 for 4 with two runs scored for Southern Maine.
Aaron Rosen was 4 for 5 with two RBI for Bowdoin.
MAINE 12, UM-PRESQUE ISLE 0: Brian Doran went 3 for 3 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored, Scott Heath hit a two-run homer and the Black Bears (18-23) cruised past the Owls (1-27) at Orono.
Shane Bussey added two hits, two RBI and a run for Maine. Logan Fullmer gave up three hits and struck out seven in five shutout innings to earn the win.
ST. JOSEPH’S 8, GORDON 0: Max McCoomb and Nic Lops each went 2 for 4 as the Monks (24-12) handled the Fighting Scots (18-15) at Standish.
Alex Lorenc hit a three-run homer in the fifth, and Alex Valenti allowed one hit in seven innings, striking out five.
HUSSON SWEEPS COLBY: Seth Freudenberger stole home with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 11th inning to lift the Eagles (24-13) to a 4-3 win over the Mules (15-13) that completed a doubleheader sweep at Bangor.
Husson took the opener, 4-1.
FISHER 9, BATES 4: A five-run bottom of the seventh inning was the difference as the Falcons (36-15) defeated the Bobcats (18-13) at Lynn, Mass.
SOFTBALL
WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 6, UNE 3: The fifth-seeded Golden Bears (20-16) scored three runs in the third and added two in the fourth as they handed the fourth-seeded Nor’easters (23-16) their first loss in the double-elimination Commonwealth Coast Conference tournament at Beverly, Mass.
Abby Lambert, Jessica Potter, Sydney Farley and Amanda Vaudreuil each had two hits for UNE, which will face No. 3 Curry in an elimination game at Endicott at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
BOWDOIN SWEEPS UM-FARMINGTON: Nicole Nelson went 4 for 4 with two RBI, and Siena Mitman had two hits and three RBI to lead the Polar Bears (24-12) in an 8-2 win over the Beavers (14-12) in the opener of a doubleheader at Brunswick.
The Polar Bears finished the sweep with a 6-0 victory in Game 2 behind a combined six-hitter from Griffin and Melissa DellaTorre.
