SOUTH PORTLAND (AP) — The City Council in South Portland, Maine, is opposing a campaign to legalize recreational marijuana use.
The Portland Press Herald reports the South Portland City Council passed a symbolic, non-binding resolution on Monday opposing a campaign to legalize the use. Councilors passed the resolution 5-0.
David Boyer of the Maine’s chapter of the Marijuana Policy Project is leading the initiative. The campaign helped pass a ballot initiative last year in Portland that legalized recreational marijuana use in the city for people 21 or older.
The project is also targeting Lewiston and York for ballot petitions urging legalization. The South Portland campaign is set to begin this week.
