PORTLAND — Boston Red Sox left-handed pitcher Felix Doubront is expected to join the Portland Sea Dogs on a major league rehab assignment on Thursday. Doubront is scheduled to start for the Sea Dogs in Tonight’s 7 p.m. game against the Erie SeaWolves at Hadlock Field.

Doubront, 26 years old, has been sidelined since May 21 with a left shoulder strain. In nine games with the Red Sox this season, Doubront has produced a 2-4 record with a 5.12 ERA and 31 strikeouts.

Doubront spent the 2009 season and part of the 2010 season with the Portland Sea Dogs. He was selected as the 2009 Sea Dogs Pitcher of the Year after notching an 8-6 record with a 3.35 ERA, which ranked second in the league, and recorded a team-high 101 strikeouts. In eight games in 2010 with the Sea Dogs he was 4-0 with a 2.51 ERA before earning a promotion to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Doubront is the second Red Sox player to rehab with the Sea Dogs this season joining Steven Wright.
