KENNEBUNK — The Kennebunk Police have charged an Old Orchard Beach man with two counts of criminal threatening, following an incident in which handwritten notes were left in mailboxes on Ross Road, which was reported on June 5.

Robert C. Simkowitz, 39, of 148 Temple Ave., Old Orchard Beach, was charged with two counts of criminal threatening. He was not arrested, but summonsed to appear in Biddeford District Court on Sept. 3.

The notes that were discovered were directed toward “parents,” and signed “pervert,” according to police. It is believed the boxes were picked at random, as only one of the recipients had minor children. No specific threats were made. On Monday, similar notes were found in Arundel mailboxes, police reported, but Simkowitz has not been charged in relation to the Arundel notes.

The Kennebunk Police Department, which investigated the incident in conjunction with Old Orchard Beach police, has extended its thanks to the public for information that led to the arrest. Police say Simkowitz has no criminal record and his motive remains unclear.
