Kate Hall of Lake Region High became the first high school girl from New England to break 24 seconds in the 200-meter dash, finishing eighth in that event and sixth in the long jump Sunday at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro, N.C.

Hall clocked a time of 23.98 seconds in the 200 heats, then ran a 24.01 in the final. She shaved nearly four-tenths of a second off her Maine all-time best, set at last weekend’s Class B state championships.

Hall’s best jump in the long jump was 19-41/2, just shy of her state all-time best of 19-63/4.

Hall also finished third Saturday in the 100 with a New England-best time of 11.58 in the prelims and a wind-aided 11.45 in the final.

Aleta Looker, a senior from Ellsworth, was 14th in the 800 on Sunday but established a Maine all-time best with her time of 2:11.31.
