WESTBROOK – The July 12 opening day of the Maine Market was deemed an “all-around success” by James Tranchemontagne, owner of the Frog & Turtle restaurant who took the lead in organizing the new artisan and farmers market at Riverbank Park in Westbrook. It is sponsored by the Westbrook/Gorham Community Chamber. “People couldn’t say enough good things, and I think all the vendors were really happy,” he said Tuesday, adding that a rough count estimated about 200 visitors.

Tranchemontagne said the market will continue to grow, and said organizers are still hoping for more produce farmers to join. He said the market could support at least two to three more farmers, based on demand from residents, and that additional vendors have expressed interest in joining, as well.

The market will be held every Saturday from 8 a.m.-noon through Aug. 30.
