Celtics to face Raptors in preseason game at Cross Insurance Arena in Portland

The Boston Celtics announced Tuesday that the team will play a preseason game against the Toronto Raptors at Cross Insurance Arena at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 15.

The Celtics last played in Portland in 1995 in a preseason matchup with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Tickets are available exclusively to Maine Red Claws season-ticket holders through Aug. 18; they go on sale to the public on Aug. 25. Prices start at $45 and tickets can be purchased at the arena box office, at Ticketmaster outlets, at ticketmaster.com or by calling 1-800-745-3000.

MEN’S HOCKEY: Former Maine Black Bear Ryan Lomberg pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct Monday, the Bangor Daily News reported.

A university spokeswoman told the Press Herald on Tuesday that Lomberg is no longer enrolled at the school. He has not been listed on the team’s roster for weeks.

Lomberg, 19, did not appear in court, but entered into a plea deal for his role in an off-campus incident April 27 in which he was accused of punching and kicking a man who suffered a broken nose and concussion. Lomberg was immediately suspended from the team.

He pleaded guilty to the Class E disorderly conduct charge and had a Class D assault charge dismissed, the Daily News reported. He still faces six months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.

BASEBALL

NECBL: Richard Vrana struck out eight in seven innings of one-hit ball, Matt Harris and Caden Bailey hit home runs and the Sanford Mainers evened their best-of-three North Division semifinal series with a 3-0 win over the Swamp Bats 3-0 at Keene, New Hampshire.

FCBL: The Seacoast Mavericks (24-26) used four runs in the seventh to rally past the Raging Tide (19-32) for a 9-6 win at Old Orchard Beach.

TENNIS

ROGERS CUP: Roger Federer rolled to a 6-2, 6-0 victory over wild card Peter Polansky in the second round at Toronto, and Ernest Gulbis, Richard Gasquet and Fabio Fognini also advanced.

n Venus Williams rebounded from a shaky second set to beat Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 in the women’s first round at Montreal.

HOCKEY

NHL: Top Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen was hospitalized in Finland because of blood clots in his lower right leg and in both lungs. His return to the ice is uncertain.

n The Penguins re-signed forward Brandon Sutter to a two-year deal that will average $3.3 million per season.
