Fagone, Frinsko recognized as best lawyers

The Bernstein Shur law firm in Portland has announced that Michael Fagone and F. Paul Frinsko, both Gorham residents, are among 57 of its attorneys named in Best Lawyers in America 2015. Eight of the firm’s attorneys, including Fagone, were ranked as a lawyer of the year.

Best Lawyers in America is an attorney referral guide. The directory is based on a peer review survey of more than 41,000 attorneys.

Cancer support group to meet

The Gorham Cancer Prayer and Support Group will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Cressey Road United Methodist Church, Cressey Road, Gorham. The group meets monthly on the first Tuesday. For more information, call 321-1390.

Human trafficking talk

Bob Atherton will speak about human trafficking at Potluck With a Purpose at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19, at South Gorham Baptist Church, 53 County Road, Gorham. Atherton’s topic is, “100 Ways We Can Help to Make a Difference.”

Everyone is welcome to the potluck meal and discussion. Those attending are asked to take food to share.

According to Gorham Historical Society information, Gorham Academy opened on Sept. 9, 1806, for the fall semester. The Rev. Reuben Nason was the preceptor and 33 students were enrolled for the fall semester. The academy building today is utilized by the University of Southern Maine.

The Bureau of the Fiscal Service reported on Aug. 22 that the U.S. public debt was $17,710,260,573,782.84.
