“I don’t think you have a heart” when it comes to educating the children of undocumented immigrants, Gov. Rick Perry of Texas said to Mitt Romney, Michele Bachmann, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum during a 2011 presidential debate.

I would say the same for Gov. Le-Page. Eight children who escaped poverty, crime and abuse risked their life to come to this country. Citizens of Iraq who worked for the U.S. military and are now subject to death threats because they helped us and are now seeking sanctuary in this country. All are undocumented immigrants.

Will the governor sit down with these desperate individuals, listen to their stories and then tell them face to face, “Buck up, go back, we can’t afford to help you?” No due process, no sympathy, no compassion, just let them “eat dirt” and go without food, or just ship them back?

Let the citizens of Iraq who risked their life for our soldiers and our government starve, because Maine won’t give them food stamps. Let children go back to Central America, to be forced into becoming drug runners and lead a life of crime or worse.

No heart, no compassion, just selfish self-interest. Go meet with your constituency who love you and avoid real life.
