As the information in your Sept. 4 article indicated (“No state child welfare workers disciplined in Arundel baby’s death”), the death of Ethan Henderson and the injuries to his siblings were tragic for all involved.

However, I would like to praise the Maine State Board of Nursing for its actions in this case. The board carried out its twofold responsibilities – that is, to protect the public and to hold the members of the nursing profession morally, ethically and legally accountable in their practice of that profession – but with consequences if that does not happen.

Based on your article, it is appalling that the other licensing boards and the Maine Department of Health and Human Services apparently do not consider it their responsibility to expect the same standards from those whom they oversee.

How many other children could be put at risk because these oversight agencies do not have the same courage and principles as the Board of Nursing?

I’m proud of the nursing profession and proud of the Board of Nursing for setting and upholding such high standards for that profession. I would hope that all medical professions would follow the same path.
